Netflix has set a date for what it calls the first in-depth documentary about Matthew Perry. The One About Matthew Perry is a three-part series from Emmy-winning director Mary Robertson, and it premieres globally on Netflix on October 27, 2026, days before the third anniversary of his death on October 28, 2023.
The trailer dropped on September 29 and went straight to #1 on Trailer Trash, on both our combined chart and our TV chart.

What is The One About Matthew Perry about?
Perry played Chandler Bing across 10 seasons of Friends, from 1994 to 2004. Netflix says the series traces his journey "from rising comedic star to the man the world still loves as their favorite Friend", anchored by never-before-heard testimony from his sister Mia Perry Bowick and his lifelong best friends. Memories from collaborators are woven in with what Netflix calls "candid new details on his private struggles."
Perry spoke openly about addiction, and the series addresses that directly. Robertson says he gave people "so much more by bravely speaking about addiction", but "the public only knew part of his story." Bowick says she wants viewers to see him "as a whole person, not just as Chandler, and not just as someone who struggled with addiction."

Bowick, Perry's younger sister, is a licensed psychotherapist, and this is the first time she has spoken about him on camera. It's also a first for Roger Castillo and David Pressman, each his best friend for more than 40 years. Castillo drove him to the Friends audition.
Also interviewed are former NBC Entertainment president Warren Littlefield, who greenlit the Friends pilot; Jeff Strauss, a first-season Friends writer and producer who helped shape Chandler; Kevin Pollak, his co-star in The Whole Nine Yards and The Whole Ten Yards; and Nate Torrence, from Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip and Mr. Sunshine. None of the main Friends cast are on Netflix's list of interviewees.
Maxine Productions, part of Sony Pictures Television, made the series, with Robertson among the executive producers.
